DynaCORE-L (EN)

Longitudinal DynaMORE study on psychological reactions to the Corona crisis

Signing up for this study is possible until 3rd July 2020!

Research purpose

In the European research consortium DynaMORE (www.dynamore-project.eu), scientists work together to find out how people adapt to adverse life circumstances and stress, and which factors protect them from developing stress-related mental disorders. This differs from person to person and from time to time. The Corona pandemic is affecting the lives of people all around the world and offers the opportunity to investigate, which strategies are helpful in overcoming such big challenges.

After we have conducted a wide international study about how the corona pandemic was momentarily affecting the lives across the planet, we would now like to find out whether the initial survey answers change as the situation evolves. We are especially interested in your personal strategies to get along with the situation and how these may change over the coming weeks. The results from this survey can provide helpful coping strategies to others during this crisis and in the future. For this, we ask you to fill out one questionnaire per week to assess how you feel during that week specifically.

The study

If you agree to participate, you will first complete one baseline survey of approximately 15 minutes. After that, a shorter survey will be repeated once a week. Answering this weekly survey will take approximately 12 minutes. In total, you will complete six questionnaires (1 baseline and 5 weekly surveys) in a period of six weeks.

If you do not have time to participate for six weeks, you could also just take part in our other study DynaCORE-C. This is a one-time survey of about 15-20 minutes. Participating in both studies is also possible. Note that DynaCORE-C has more languages available, check the scroll-down menu in the upper right corner of the survey.

Please note: You can only participate if you are 18 years or older and if you agree that we use your answers for the research purpose mentioned above.

Reimbursement

We do not offer financial reimbursement for participation in this study. However, if you have completed six weeks, you will enter a lottery for amazon gift cards worth €100 (one gift card available per 100 participants). By participating, you also make a valuable contribution to understanding psychological responses to the current pandemic. Let us already take the opportunity to thank you for your support!

Instructions

To answer the surveys for this longitudinal study, please download the mobile app “m-Path” from the play- or appstore (see links below). This app invites you to answer the weekly questionnaire on your own mobile phone. Our collaboration partners at KU Leuven originally developed the app for clinical applications. We will now use this in a research context. Further information can be found at www.m-path.io.

Playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.m_Path.kuleuven&hl=nl

Appstore:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/m-path/id1469274164

After downloading the app to your phone, you will be asked to create an alias. Please do not use any personal data for that, but a random combination of numbers and letters. In order to ensure that the data stays anonymous, it is important that you do not use your real name. Once you have entered your alias, you can find the questionnaire in your language by searching for one of the following “practitioners”:

English:  @dyna2

Now you can start participating! When you have completed the weekly survey six times, you will be automatically enrolled in the lottery. We will announce the results of the lottery on August 10, 2020 via the app. For this, we do not need any further personal data from you.

If you want to participate in the lottery, you must leave the app on your phone until August 10, 2020. If you win, you will receive a unique Amazon voucher code in the app; if you have lost, you will let you know via the app too. If you have missed the notification on that day, you can always go to “START questionnaire” in the app to see your results. If you have (accidentally) deleted the app from your phone, you can no longer participate in the lottery.

We would like to thank you very much for donating your time and effort as a contribution to science. With your help, we will be one step closer to help improve general health by investigating the psychological mechanisms that allow us to deal with this crisis.

Data protection

The legal basis for the processing of your data is your explicit declaration of consent according to Article 6 section 1(a) and Article 9 paragraph 2(a) GDPR, respectively.

The Leibniz-Institut für Resilienzforschung gGmbH in Mainz (study design and evaluation) and the KU Leuven in Belgium (app development) are joint controllers of this research project (Article 26 GDPR).

The following personal data is stored on the KU Leuven servers: the alias that you create yourself as described above, your IP address, and the time zone in which you are located. The IP address is only saved in the log data on the servers of the KU Leuven, but not transmitted to the research team. The alias should be created in a way that it does not reference to your personal identity, because it is transferred to the research team. Since this is an international study, the data provided with aliases will also be evaluated by our cooperation partners. You can delete the data in the app yourself at any time and uninstall the app and thus withdraw your consent, however, deletion of the data that has already been transmitted to the research team can no longer be requested, since the research team will not be able to relate to a person to produce and assign data records.

Your coded data might be shared with others for research purposes and may be published or made publicly available (e.g., in repositories). This means that the data may be kept long-term and not deleted.

In case of unwanted events, data can be relayed pseudonymously (with an alias) to the ethical review committee of the Medical Association of Rhineland-Palatinate or the agency concerned. Data can be stored for the duration of 10 years at the above-mentioned authorities.

As for personal data that are being collected within the study, the rights of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), set on May 25, 2018 (Article 12 ff. GDPR), apply. Articles 13 and 14 GDPR contain the right to be informed, which we hereby provide. Accordingly, you can under specific circumstances ask for the processing of the data collected by you to be limited, as per Articles 18 and 19 GDPR, §58 BDSG-neu, so that these may be stored but not processed. This, however, you have to request separately from the Principal Investigator or the Data Protection Officer of LIR gGmbH (see below for contact information). We would like to point out that according to the new regulation you have a right of access (Articles 15 GDPR, §§34 and 57 BDSG-neu) to the data that has been collected by you, processed and transferred to third parties in the context of this study. Articles 13 and 14 GDPR contain the right to be informed, which we hereby provide. Furthermore, you have the right of erasure / right to be forgotten as per Article 17 GDPR if you retract your consent to participate and there is no further basis for data processsing. You have the right of data portability (Articles 20 GDPR) and the right to object to your study participation (Article 21 GDPR). Furthermore, you have the right to call the supervisory authority (Article 77 GDPR).
